What is the correct underlayment for metal roof
Feb 17, 2010 · I'm watching our metal roof install. The underlayment looks a lot like I&W shield. It has a sticky backing and a material (felt like) top layer. It doesn't look like breathable material. The house was built in 1954 and despite periodic leaks, poor ventilation, and minimal insulation the decking is still in very good condition. Should I be worried?

Mar 16, 2005 · There is no underlayment at all. Is this normal? The roof leaks as do several windows. The windows did not leak until the contractor replaced the original metal roof because it was very noisy on windy days. The original noisy roof did not leak but the replacement one does at several windows and at a valley.

The building 40 by 60 will have five and a half inches open cell in the walls. The ceiling will be sheet metal as well with a moisture barrier and adequate blown insulation.

Jan 2, 2008 · We have a screened in deck with a metal roof. We did not know to use any type of underlayment. The metal roof is attached directly to stringers on top of the rafters. We have not enclosed the ceiling but would like to to keep it cooler in the summer. How do we deal with condensation problem so we can insulate and enclose?

Nov 26, 2005 · I have been in the process of getting a estimate. The last gentlemen I spoke to said that my old roof of asphalt shingles the metal could go directly on top of it. The new structure is a gambrel roof and the roof has 2x4 stripping every approx. 2 feet with foam insulation between the 2x4 the length of the roof.
