Alex Ovechkin has broken Wayne Gretzky’s record for the most goals in NHL history by scoring the 895th of his career.

When Ovechkin broke the record in the second period, the game stopped. Officials rolled out a carpet onto the ice, and Ovechkin’s family along with NHL officials and Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Capitals came to the center of the rink.

Alexander Ovechkin has broken the unbreakable record. With a slapshot straight to the back of the net, the Washington Capitals captain, 39, officially became the NHL's all-time goal leader on Sunday, April 6, surpassing the legendary Wayne Gretzky with his 895th career goal.
