The decade between 1952 and the early 1960s was the peak period for the style of music we now call doo wop, after which it got dissolved into soul music, girl groups, and within pop music in general.

Seeing that there was a market for that type of music, the guys decided to form their own group. “In a way, doo-wop is sort of dying out, so it’s our mission to keep it alive,” Nolfi said.

It was this organic creativity that defied instruments, or taking formal music lessons. For doo-wop and hip-hop, they used their vocal instruments and wrote their own lyrics.
