Generic Boniva approved for osteoporosis March 19, 2012 HealthDay News — The FDA has approved the first generic versions of the once-monthly osteoporosis drug ibandronate (Boniva, Genentech).

(HealthDay) -- The first generic versions of the once-monthly osteoporosis drug Boniva (ibandronate) have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The drug is a generic version of Boniva. The branded drug and generic versions had U.S. sales of approximately $486 million during the 12-month period ended in March, according to IMS Health.
