Jabrill Peppers was back to playing football for the Patriots on Sunday, but the hard-hitting safety is no longer a team captain following his October arrest.

New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers is active for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after being taken off the commissioner exempt list this week amid his ongoing domestic violence and drug case.

Peppers was dropped from the Commissioner’s Exempt List and reinstated by the NFL earlier in the week. He hasn’t played since the team’s Week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Meanwhile, Wise has missed the last two games due to a foot injury.

Peppers was removed from the commissioner’s exempt list on Monday and returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since he pleaded not guilty on assault, strangulation and drug charges in October. His first practice back was a walk-through in the Patriots’ practice bubble.

FOXBOROUGH — Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers returned to practice Tuesday amid ongoing legal proceedings for an alleged incident of domestic violence in October. Peppers, who spoke to the media briefly before practice, said he was not going to discuss any details about the criminal case, following advice from his attorneys.

FOXBOROUGH - Brian Belichick didn’t hide or couch his feelings about having Jabrill Peppers back with the team, working toward a return. The Patriots safeties coach was happy to see Peppers, who was removed from the Commissioner’s Exempt List earlier in the week, back in the mix.

“The NFL today removed Jabrill Peppers of the New England Patriots from the Commissioner Exempt List. Peppers has missed seven games since being placed on the list on October 9. Peppers, who was not permitted to practice or attend games while on the list, is now eligible to participate in all team activities, including playing in games.

The Indianapolis Colts will have wide receiver Alec Pierce back on the field as they visit the New England Patriots, who will see the return of safety Jabrill Peppers, on Sunday in Foxborough, Mass. Pierce missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a foot injury but returned to full practice Friday and is expected to play against the Patriots (3-9).
