Beleaguered Chinese tech giant Huawei made headlines in October for unveiling a new version of its smartphone operating system with no remaining ties to Android code, but HarmonyOS Next hasn’t made its global debut with the new Mate X6 foldable phone.

After making headlines with the world’s first double folding phone (that is selling only in China), Huawei is launching a new foldable phone for the global market including Europe, Asia and the Middle East. But sadly for tech geeks such as myself, this is “just” a conventional book-like foldable phone that bends at only one point.

The Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro Plus, and Mate 70 RS will also be offered with Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.3, which first launched in August 2019 as an alternative to Google’s Android OS and is still compatible with Android’s extensive app library.

The Huawei Mate 70 is a 100% Made in China smartphone, the company's CEO said. Huawei managed to reach that level of autonomy.

The newly introduced Mate 70 Pro Plus phone runs on a processor built with the same 7-nanometer technology used in its Mate 60 Pro last year, according to a teardown of the device by researchers at TechInsights. The chip, Kirin 9020, is designed by Huawei and once again produced by Shanghai’s Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp.

Huawei's Mate X6 foldable is very cool, but the Nova 13 Pro is the more interesting new release from the brand, even if it doesn't fold up.

Huawei has announced EMUI 15 with the launch of the global Mate X6 variant. We still don't have all the information about it, though.
