Ubisoft announced XDefiant as a military shooter themed around crossovers between different Ubisoft IPs in 2021. After months of private and public tests, the game was launched on May 21, 2024.

Ubisoft have discontinued their PvP shooter XDefiant and laid off roughly 277 employees at the studios who worked on the multiplayer game.

XDefiant failed to keep players with it, so Ubisoft announced the end of the game's development. As a result, about 270 people will say goodbye to their jobs and two branches of the company will be closed.
