AT&T Inc. hopes to persuade people across the country to break up with their landlines by the end of 2029. To do so, it’s deploying a new weapon that might help: a wireless home phone.
The new service can be used with an existing landline phone that plugs into a jack, and it connects to AT&T's wireless network as an alternative. It costs $45 a month.
In 2022, just 1.3% of Americans relied solely on landlines, while 25.4% used both wireless and landline phones. But most Americans by far, 71.7%, rely only on wireless communications.
