World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said on Friday the new Ultimate Championship team event officially unveiled by the sport's governing body would be a "gamechanger" for track and field.

The inaugural 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest will feature the new mixed 4x100 metres relay where athletes will compete in national kits while representing both themselves and their national teams.

The introduction of a mixed 4x100m relay follows the success of the mixed 4x400m relay, which has featured in the last two Olympics.
