Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction of the Shiv Sena has decisively defeated Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, securing 36 seats in head-to-head contests, according to the results by the Election Commission of India that was released on Saturday.

Eknath Shinde had parted ways with Uddhav Thackeray, along with several Shiv Sena legislators, in 2022 to protest against his decision to ally with arch-rival Congress.

Milind Deora from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction of the Shiv Sena lost the seat by a margin of 8,801 votes.
