Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr took the stand Friday during his murder trial. It was the first time he's discussed Patrick Lyoya's killing.

A Michigan police officer who killed a man with a shot to the back of the head testified in his own defense Friday, telling jurors at his second-degree murder trial that he was "running on fumes" and fearing for his life after losing his Taser during an intense fight.

During questioning from the jury, Christopher Schurr was asked why he shot Patrick Lyoya in the back of the head. The former Grand Rapids cop says that the gun was pointed in that direction and that it “ended up striking his head”.
