A Mardel Christian & Education store had its grand opening Monday morning at its location next to Hobby Lobby at 1900 S.W. Wanamaker.

Mardel Christian & Education bookstore is set to have its grand opening on Sept. 7 at 1900 S.W. Wanamaker Road, officials told 13 NEWS on Friday.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A new Christian book store and education supplier is now open in Lynchburg. Mardel Christian and Education is located next to its sister company, Hobby Lobby, on Wards Road.

WHAT: Tennessee’s first-ever Mardel Christian & Education store with 24,000 square feet of retail space. WHERE: 3211 Peoples Street Johnson City (Johnson City Crossing).

For most teachers, this means dedicating their own money. But for a handful of teachers shopping Thursday morning at Mardel Christian and Education Store, the bill was covered by Reliant and Mardel.

Arts-and-crafts retailer Hobby Lobby and Mardel Christian bookstore are moving from East Battlefield Road digs near Battlefield Mall to a large space on South Glenstone Avenue that used to be a Kmart.

Mardel, a Christian bookstore chain, has 38 locations in 11 states. The company was founded by Mart Green an heir to Hobby Lobby, which was founded by his father David Green.
