This week, we heard some news from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo about Apple entering a new segment of the laptop market. The company is reportedly working on a new MacBook at a lower starting price point than the MacBook Air, and it’ll apparently pack the A18 Pro chip found in iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to release a brand-new MacBook model that’s designed for the low-cost market. The laptop will not use an M-series chip, but an A18 Pro, the same chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro. Kuo believes it will have a 13-inch display and come in blue, pink, silver, and yellow.

As Snell notes, Apple’s A18 Pro chip is “46% faster than the M1 in single-core tasks, and almost identical to the M1 on multi-core and graphics tasks.” For general laptop tasks like browsing the web, watching videos, and messaging, the iPhone chip would be more than sufficient.
