Pakistani police say gunmen have fired on vehicles carrying Shiite Muslims in the restive northwest, killing at least 42 people and wounding 20 others

A senior Pakistani police officer says fighting between armed sectarian groups in the country's restive northwest has killed at least 33 people.

Gunmen ambushed a convoy of passenger vehicles traveling in remote northern Pakistan, killing dozens of people, authorities said. The gunmen had been hiding in the mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province's Kurram district and fired on the convoy of some 200 passenger vehicles,
