The measles outbreak in West Texas now counts almost 600 cases, according to Texas health data released Friday. The 597 cases is 36 more than were tallied Tuesday, according to information from Texas Health and Human Services.

There have been 800 confirmed cases of measles across 25 states so far this year, according to the latest update from the CDC on Friday, far surpassing the 285 measles cases reported in the entirety of 2024 (the CDC does not provide data on how many cases are actively infectious).

At least six children at a day care in Lubbock, Texas, tested positive for measles amid the state's growing outbreak, local officials confirmed to CBS News Tuesday. On Monday, Lubbock Public Health issued immunization recommendations for the whole county following the cases at Tiny Tots U Learning Academy on South University Avenue.
